Many businesses rely on building an email list to increase sales and grow. One of the best methods of building your list is by creating a lead magnet or opt-in bribe. A lead magnet or opt-in bribe is when give your customers something of value. To get the lead magnet or opt-in bribe, the customer will provide their email address. Once you have collected the email address, you can add them to a funnel where you can educate and then sell to them.
In this guide, we are going to step you through how you can build a large email list using lead magnets. We have used the same strategy to grow our email list. All you need for this strategy is ActiveCampaign and Omnistar Affiliate.

To get started, you first need to figure out what you are going to give your customers in exchange of their email address. For example, we created an eCommerce Email Marketing Guide. On this guide we tell customers that they can get a PDF version of the guide.
To get the PDF version of the guide, our users can use one of three options to enter the email address. The first is an exit intent popup. This popup comes up if the user wants to leave the page. It looks like this.
The second method of getting the PDF copy of the guide, is when the user clicks on a leadbox. It looks like this.
The last method is when they fill out our slide-in form. It looks like this.
Once you have figured out what you are going to give your customers, it is now time to set up your lead magnet. To make this strategy powerful, you will add a customizable thank you page that will create a viral loop. This viral loop is the secret sauce to boosting your list building. Here’s how it works.
Usually, many businesses just have a lead magnet. The user will enter their email address and then get what was promised. The process ends there.
What you saw in the video above and what we’ll show you how to set up below is different. In this new set up, once the user enters their email address and get what they were promised, they will be asked to promote your list and when they do they will get unlock a bonus incentive.
This process will create a viral loop where new users will promote your list to their family and friends. So, a user will get your lead magnet and then promote you to other users. Those new users will get the lead magnet and then promote you to a new set of users. This will go on and on. It’ll be a continuous loop of users just promoting your email list.
To get this going, you will need ActiveCampaign and Omnistar Affiliate.
ActiveCampaign is a powerful email service provider. You’ll need them for managing your email list and for setting up drip campaigns where you will educate and sell to your list.
Omnistar Affiliate is a referral marketing platform. You’ll use Omnistar to create the customizable thank you page that customers will land on to promote your list.
To get started you will first need to integrate Omnistar Affiliate and ActiveCampaign. To do this, you will need the API Url, API Key, and list id from ActiveCampaign. Next, you will add that information to Omnistar Affiliate. It will look like this.
Follow the instructions here to integrate ActiveCampaign and Omnsitar Affiliate.
Next, it is time to create your customizable thank you page. This is the page users will be redirected to after they provide their email address. On this page, they will get what they downloaded and then they will promote your list. Watch this video to see how this works.
To set up your customizable thank you page, log in to Omnistar Affiliate. Next, click on Manage Marketing Tools.
Next click on Add Thank You Page Template.
You can now create and customize your thank you page.
When you create your thank you page, you will need to specify where users will get their lead magnet. Also, you will add the bonus incentive that users will unlock when they promote your list.
When you finish creating the thank you page, you will need to get the form code for that thank you page. This is the form that users will fill out to get redirected to the thank you page.
You will get to this form when you click on edit form in the thank you page dropdown option.
Now that everything is set up, you can launch your lead magnet. This is how your lead magnet will work.
A user will provide their email in exchange of the lead magnet. The form generated by Omnistar Affiliate will collect the email and send it to ActiveCampaign. That form will be embedded on your website as is, or you will use software like LeadPages and OptinMonster to create popups and leadboxes. The email will be added to ActiveCampaign where you will continue educating the customer and eventually sell to them.

A user will provide their email address to get a PDF copy of the guide.
Next, the will be redirected to the customizable thank you page.
On this thank you page, there’s 2 things they’ll need to do. First, they will download their lead magnet.
Next, they will promote our guide to their family and friends. When they promote the guide, they will promoting our list.
When they send users who add their email to our list, they will unlock a bonus. In this case, we give them a separate guide on how to market and grow their store in 6 months.
All these users will be added to the list we specify in ActiveCampaign.
From this list, we can tag these users and them to different drip campaigns where we will educate them and market to them.
