Having a parenting blog is amazing. It allows you to share not only tips but also real life experiences on how you take care of your children. It gives you so much meaning than just be an ordinary parent – You also become a driving force that can change the world through your online parenting website.
However, having a parenting blog is not easy. Not only does it require dedication from you. It also requires money so that you can consistently pay for your website’s domain, hosting and other fees. Without a source of income, the act of having a parenting blog can be quite tiring. It doesn’t matter how passionate you are about the subject. Without a significant financial return, it is easy to just ditch the blog altogether.
With this, I came up with a list of products that you can promote in your parenting blog. These are products that can work in just about any type of parenting blog. Please note that these are not just affiliate products. They are high performing products with a significant rate of return. So if you are looking for some products to promote on your blog for a little extra income, you have come to the right place.
How to Promote in the Parenting Niche
Before we go to the list of products that you should promote in your parenting website, let us first talk about how to promote in the parenting niche. While there are so many passionate parents out there, most of them don’t know the process of Internet marketing. This part will serve as a mini course in teaching you how to promote products online so that you can finally make money in the parenting niche.
STEP 1: Learn about Keyword Research
One of the easiest ways to get traffic is to have your website listed on the search engines. In fact, most parenting website get more than 50% of their traffic from search traffic. This means that you should at least be in the front page when someone search for a topic in your niche. How can you do that? You can do it with keyword research.
Keyword research is the process of uncovering keywords that are easy to rank for. It doesn’t need to be profitable unless you are talking about pay-per-click marketing but they must only have a few competing websites. Why does it need to have low competition? So that it is easier to rank, of course!
For this, you can use Google Keyword Planner. When you search for a keyword in this tool, the keywords are sorted into a table. In one part of the table is the competition level. You’ll want to sort the keywords from low to high competition level so that you can find the keywords that are easier to rank for.
But don’t just take any keyword that has low competition level in it. You have to look at it and think if it is relevant to your target market – the parents. This brings us to step 2: putting yourself in the parents’ shoes.
STEP 2: Put Yourself in the Parents’ Shoes
Keywords are meaningless unless they are applied. For this you will need to know the topics that parents care about.
For this, I love to use BuzzSumo. It is a search engine for social share counts and can return the topics with the highest share count for just about any topic.
Searching is easy. Just input a keyword and it will return articles that has the most social shares. This will give you an idea on what type of content to create for your niche.
NOTE: Don’t limit yourself to keywords that has ‘parent’ or ‘parenting’ in it. Think about topics that your market really care about like “how to teach your baby to talk” and “how to discipline your teenager”.
STEP 3: Think Outside of the Box for Content
The best content doesn’t come in a classic format. In fact, some of the best content in the parenting niche is done in a visual or interactive format. Take Frugal Dad’s Billion Dollar Baby Scam infographic for example. It is one of the articles in the parenting niche that has the most shares. This goes to show that it is better to ‘package’ your content in such a way that it is interesting to real parents who will read your blog.
STEP 4: Be Honest in Your Promotions
In the next section, I will show you some affiliate products that you can promote in your blog. But this doesn’t mean that you should become a sleazy salesperson tricking your customers to click that link thinking that the book is made by you. No. Please don’t do that. Instead, tell them outright that it is an interesting product that you found that can authentically help them with their problems. Then, follow that with an honest statement that you have included an affiliate link and it would help you a lot if they will buy through that. It is that easy. No need to be sleazy. Just tell them the truth. Your readers will thank you for it.
STEP 5: Start with the Problem
What is the main reason that parents read parenting blogs? Is it for entertainment? I don’t think so. The common reason is that they want to solve a problem – This can be as simple as potty training their baby or it can be as complicated as getting a child to tell the truth. Whatever the problem may be, you should start any piece of content with the problem. This shows that you empathize with your reader as well as have the expertise to help them.
STEP 6: Come Up With Unique Branded Solutions
Once you got your readers hooked, it is time to introduce your solution. But you should not give them solutions that they can find elsewhere. If you are just going to rehash what every other parenting blog is saying about that topic then your reader would likely click ‘back’ if they have already encountered that solution. So what should you do? You should come up with unique branded solutions instead.
How do you this? It’s simple really. And it doesn’t even require a wealth of creativity. You just need to learn how to combine and package – That’s it.
So here’s what you should do. When you have a problem, you start looking for solutions. Then you relate these solutions with each other and then combine 3 to 5 of them. From here, you should arrange them in a step-by-step order and brand them. Just put ‘technique’, ‘approach’ or ‘system’ in the end and you’re done. You now have a solution to the problem that is uniquely yours.
Now, if you promote this solution, you’ll likely get more attention than before. With more traffic, you can now start promoting some affiliate programs. We will talk more about that in the next section.
Recommended Parenting Affiliate Programs
With promotion aside, it is time to learn a bit about the affiliate programs that are designed for parenting. Let us look at some of the best products I can find.
Every parent wants to raise a child who believes in himself. They know that the real world can be harsh. They know that confidence is a must if the child wants to survive in the real world. It is with this reason that this book is a very popular affiliate product to promote. Aside from the high 40% commission for each sale, the information inside is also guaranteed for it is created by a certified self-esteem coach for children. You may visit their affiliate page or ClickBank to join.
If you want to promote a full parenting course to your readers but you don’t have the time to create one, you can just promote this course entitled Positive Parenting Solutions. This is a comprehensive online training program that has a solution for just about any problem that a parent may encounter. It is priced at $299 and affiliates can make 15% of that on each sale. It is available through its affiliate page and ShareASale
Every parent wants their kids to be happy. But they only do that if they learn to see things in the positive light. The Law of Attraction for Kids is a course that helps kids become positive individuals. It is a popular product because you can earn as much as 50% for each sale. You can sign up through its affiliate page or ClickBank.
If your readers need more than just information, they may need someone to personally coach them. However, this is not something that you mush do for you have to be certified to do this. With this, you can ask for the power of an experienced parent coach, Susan Eipstein, to do the coaching for you. If you promote your program, you get 15% for each sale. So that’s a win-win for both of you.
Signing up is easy. Just go to its affiliate page to sign up.
For parents who are having their first baby, learning how to potty train is one of the issues that they face. You can supplement your potty training content with this ebook. The best part? You get as much as 75% for each sale. And that includes upsells. This is the highest percentage out of the bunch. To sign up, simply go to its affiliate page or ClickBank.
It seems that toddlers can easily relate with each other. It is like they have their own language. Leave them and you’ll see them playing with each other without even saying a word. How can they even do that?
This product will teach you just that. It teaches parents to communicate with their babies. Giving as much as 75% for each sale, it is quite enticing. You can sign up for their program through its affiliate page, or ClickBank.
You can also offer your readers an access to a database of parenting professionals. Kids in the House is not a coaching program but it gives members access to over 9,000 videos of real parents and professionals. It is like a parenting learning archive.
I think that this is a good general parenting product to promote. You can add it to your sidebar or recommend it via email.
Including Your Affiliate Product in Your Website
Promoting your affiliate products doesn’t have to be in-your-face. It can be promoted subtly by adding it at the end of a relevant article or including it in a list of recommended products for parents. Promotion can also be done in a form of a review. This is where you buy the product yourself and create an in-depth review about it. It is a great content idea and can convince most of your readers to buy especially if they trust you.
Again, be honest. Don’t tell them to click on a link just because you think it is awesome. And don’t say that you have used the product if you don’t.
Instead, tell them that you are recommending this product because you think that it can help them. Tell them that you will include your affiliate link but they don’t need to click on it. But if they do, it will help you a lot.
You can even go another mile and tell them that you will help a cause if they buy through your affiliate link. Be creative but be honest.
So that’s how you promote affiliate products in your parenting website. It’s not that hard. Although some parts of the selling process can be confusing, you can always ask me questions if you’re lost. I hope this has helped you discover a revenue stream for your parenting website. Please implement this and tell me how it goes. I’m excited to hear your success stories.
